Optical Character Recognition (OCR) products are the easiest way to convert paper documents into editable text.

OCR is a process whereby users run a printed page of text through a scanner, before specialized software analyses and converts typed areas of the scan into recognized characters and words and produces a text file which can be edited in any word processor.

During OCR process a document's content is converted to text and can be electronically searched, edited or used in a word-processing capacity.

Even though one needs a computer and a scanner the effectiveness, flexibility and accuracy of the actual text recognition depends on the OCR package used. Most scanners can be equipped with an automatic document feeder that allows the user to fill the scanner with stacks of pages to read. The document feeder automatically inserts one page at a time into the scanner.

While the latest OCR solutions bring very high level of accuracy they are often equipped with spellcheckers to help finish off the job.

Given the complex issues involved, in general, OCR software is simple to operate.
